Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Allegan County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message as needed to answer. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive limited technical information when a page loads, including:
- Page-view timestamps
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- Your device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, such as popular pages and common exit points. You may block cookies in your browser, although doing so can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the appropriate outside provider
- Diagnose and correct technical faults
- Maintain performance and site availability
- Measure which material visitors use
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Allegan County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Allegan County Sheriff, the 57th District and 48th Circuit Courts, the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Michigan criminal-history dissemination is governed in part by MCL 28.243, while court files follow Michigan court rules. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its retention and sharing practices. Review those terms before sending a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Allegan County offices, Michigan agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search tools. After you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. We do not operate that tracking infrastructure.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be disclosed only to the following types of recipients:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order compels disclosure
- Advertising networks that place ads
- Analytics providers that measure performance and traffic
- Search providers that process a query you submit
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard security measures are used to protect collected data. No internet system can be guaranteed completely secure, so we cannot promise that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied personal data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on where you live and the law that applies. Michigan's Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 through 445.922, addresses unfair, unconscionable, or deceptive business practices. The Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 through 15.246, governs requests to public bodies and does not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Object to certain processing when the law provides that choice
- Request deletion of information where applicable
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request access to information we maintain about you
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date. Review the current policy periodically if you wish to track those changes.
